New York-headquartered law firm Milbank has snapped up leading financial services and regulatory regulator Charles Evans as a partner in its London office.
Mr Evans – who makes the switch from international practice Norton Rose -- joins the American’s global litigation and arbitration group. He focuses on a range of domestic and international banking and commercial disputes, developing a reputation in contentious regulatory proceedings, representing corporate, financial institutions and individuals under investigation and in enforcement proceedings brought by a variety of regulatory bodies.
Mr Evans is the fifth new partner to join Milbank’s London office in the past eight months. In May, the firm announced the arrival of corporate lawyer Mark Stamp from Linklaters; in June, Nicholas Spearing joined from Freshfields as the office’s first competition partner; in August, Neil Caddy joined from Mayer Brown to expand the firm’s leveraged finance practice and Clive Ransome joined the global project finance practice from Linklaters.
International law firm Taylor Wessing has bagged the services of leading technology, media and communications lawyer Mike Turner as a partner. Mr Turner -- who joins from Osborne Clarke, where he was international head of the digital business group -- will head the his new firm’s UK TMT group, covering advertising and marketing, broadcasting and film, gaming, interactive media, music, press and publishing, social media, sports and sponsorship, technology and telecoms.

Tax expert Michael Puls has joined the Dusseldorf office of German law firm Luther as a partner, moving from Flick Gocke Schaumburg. He will focus on advising energy supply companies.
The Warsaw off of Pittsburgh-based law firm K&L Gates has strengthened its banking and finance practice with the appointment of Lech Gilici?ski as a partner.
Mr Gilici?ski advises Polish and multinational clients on corporate and financial restructurings as well as various banking and finance matters, private equity, and intellectual property issues. He also serves as the World Bank’s insolvency and restructuring country partner in Poland, and was a principal legal advisor to the jurisdiction’s justice minister and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on the implementation of Poland’s bankruptcy and restructuring law.
Global law firm Salans has snapped up Peter Kubina as a partner for its Slovakian banking and finance practice group at the practice’s Bratislava office. Mr Kubina – who joins from magic circle firm Allen & Overy -- is an expert in banking and finance transactions dispute resolution matters, and also property merger and acquisition transactions.
Italian employment boutique Lablaw has announced the appointment of Sharon Reilly as a partner. Ms Reilly -- a dual qualified UK and Italian lawyer – co-founded Italian niche firm the Employment Law Plant (hELP) in 2011, where she was the partner in charge of the firm's international business, strategic planning and expansion, setting up and running a network of specialist employment lawyers in more than 60 countries worldwide.
Washington DC-based law firm Covington & Burling has recruited Monika Kuschewsky to its Brussels data protection practice.
Germany-qualified Ms Kuschewsky specialises in a range of data protection matters relevant to global companies, focussing on international data transfers, outsourcing, personnel and direct marketing, as well as multijurisdictional audits and compliance. She also advises on the data protection implications of the use of new technologies and practices.
New York law firm Shearman & Sterling has strengthened its Milan office with the appointment of Valerio Fontanesi.
Mr Fontanesi – who will slot into the firm’s finance and restructuring practice – has past experience of working in the banking and finance departments of prominent Italian and international law firms, including Linklaters, Gianni Origoni Grippo Cappelli & Partners and Sidley & Austin.

K&L Gates has recruited Tae Rhee as a partner in its Portland office’s corporate practice. Mr Rhee recently served as executive vice president and general counsel with 20/20 Communications in Dallas. He specialises in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and venture capital related transactions, and international joint ventures, having advised companies and investors from start-up to liquidity, including public offerings and company sales.

Sydney-based law firm Minster Ellison has prised competition and regulatory specialist Matthew Knox from Corrs Chambers Westgarth to become a partner in the firm’s Perth office. Mr Knox has experience in merger clearance, restrictive trade and regulatory issues with an energy and resources focus.
