Pittsburgh law firm Reed Smith has announced the capture of Clifford Chance partner Claude Brown, who will join the firm’s structured finance team as partner.
Mr Brown, formally head of structured solutions at magic circle firm CC, specialises in derivatives, commodity derivatives and prime brokerage.
The firm has expanded its London structured finance and derivatives practice, as well as its energy and commodities practices, over the past two years and has appointed a number of high-profile partners, including: Tamara Box, Helena Nathanson, Chris Borg, Nick Stainthorpe, Peter Zaman and Brett Hillis.
Reed Smith has also expanded its global energy and natural resources offering with the appointment of Rashpaul Bahia to its partnership.
Mr Rashpaul joins the firm’s energy and natural resources group from McDermott Will & Emery and will be based in London. He has expertise in energy and commodity derivatives transactions, representing financial institutions, hedge funds, and energy and commodity companies in a variety of trading, transactional, cross-border regulatory and risk management issues.
SJ Berwin has secured Stephen Webb as a partner in its London real estate practice.
A qualified solicitor and chartered town planner with more than 24 years’ experience of planning and planning law, Mr Webb joins from SNR Denton where he led the planning team and was one of the firm’s three global Government Sector heads.

NCTM Studio Legale Associato has confirmed that that the former Ambassador Attilio Massimo Iannucci, an expert in international law with a long diplomatic career, has joined the law firm as of counsel.
Mr Iannucci will be responsible for the development of business relations between Italy and China, allowing for the further development of the Shanghai office.
His appointment is of particular importance as NCTM is the first Italian law firm to appoint a former Ambassador and one of the few in Europe.
In addition to its London appointments, Reed Smith has also expanded its Munich-based disputes practice with a partner hire.
Christian Thomas Stempfle becomes the third new hire at the Munich office in the last 12 months. He advises and represents companies and private individuals, nationally and internationally, in court cases and arbitrations, especially cross border litigation, liability and insurance, transport and logistics, shareholder and post M&A disputes. In insolvency related disputes, he frequently acts on behalf of insolvency administrators. He is also active in criminal prevention advice and criminal defence in investigations and trials.

Boston based firm Bingham McCutchen has significantly boosted its offering with the appointment of Federal Trade Commission Senior Competition Adviser Darren Tucker and former Department of Justice prosecutor Michael Whitlock.
The duo join the firm as litigation partners in the Washington office.
Mr Tucker was a senior competition adviser to FTC Commissioner Joshua Wright and former Commissioner J Thomas Rosch where he reviewed and analysed staff recommendations on all aspects of the FTC's competition mission.
Mr Whitlock is an experienced prosecutor in international cartel matters, who worked in the Department of Justice Antitrust Division, National Criminal Enforcement Section.
