UK intellectual property firms Cleveland IP and Scott & York IP Law are to merge on 1 April 2017. The combined firm will be known as Cleveland Scott York. Cleveland IP is already a significant player in the trade mark sector - in recent rankings it scored highest for the number of opposition hearings in the UK. The merger will double the team and expand its practice in areas such as medical devices, life sciences, material and nano-technology, mechanical engineering, electronics, software and automotive. The newly merged firm, Cleveland Scott York, will have offices in London, St Albans, Reading and Brussels. The Brussels office will provide the firm with a valuable EU presence. It is one element in the firm’s strategy to maintain an EU trade mark filing capability after the UK leaves the EU in two years’ time.
