Auckland: judge replaced in extradition case

The Washington Post reports that Auckland District Court Judge David Harvey raised questions over his impartiality when he made a reference to late cartoonist Walt Kelly, saying: ‘We have met the enemy, and he is US.’

Racketeering charges

The comment was made at an internet copyright conference last week but was recorded and quickly posted on line.
The US is currently trying to extradite German-born Mr Dotcom on racketeering and money laundering charges that allege his file-sharing site was facilitating massive Internet piracy.
Judge Harvey will be replaced by Judge Nevin Dawson. An extradition hearing has been scheduled for March.
