Kasowitz Benson makes layoffs in response to volatile litigation markets

The 350-lawyer New York-based litigation specialist firm is making a round of redundancies, said by one source to amount to as many as 40, in response to unpredictable demand.

Kasowitz, Benson, Torres & Friedman announced the layoffs in an email to all staff on Tuesday, after the people affected had been informed. Partner Marc Kasowitz told Bloomberg: 'We had a strong year last year, and we’re looking at markets for litigation that are volatile and unpredictable. We’re trying to plan smartly for the future. I think that’s the most accurate way to sum up our thinking of this.' It describes itself as a 'national law firm primarily focusing on complex commercial litigation'. It has nine offices in the US.
