Law firms set to hire new lawyers in 2014

Nearly two-thirds (62 per cent) of law firms are planning to hire more lawyers in the next 12 months, according to an ALM Legal Intelligence report.

The report, 'Turf Wars: Defining new roles and competing for new territories', also shows, however, that 49% plan to cut support staff. More respondents expect a growth in outsourcing (19%) than those who gave this prediction a year ago (10%). The biggest concerns of staff are: there being too much 'deadweight' in their firms; pay being too low compared to other law firms; and overwork.
