The study by the Intergenerational Foundation looked at graduate destinations for students six months after finishing their first degree, and found that 19.8 per cent of law grads are waiting tables, stacking shelves or pulling pints for a living after graduating. Law school leavers are well above the 13.7 per cent average for all the graduate disciplines included in the study. While they were considerably less likely to be found in low-paying hospitality or retail jobs than their peers with degrees in fine arts (29 per cent), media (26.7 per cent) or performing arts (23.5 percent), you’re far more likely to find a lawyer mixing your Friday afternoon cocktail than a graduate of civil engineering (4.7 per cent), economics (7.9 per cent) or mathematics (9.3 per cent).
