Mr Afridi left the country just before his client, Dr Shakil Afridi, was due to hear if he is to face another trial. The doctor is currently serving a 33-year jail term, a sentence which is seen by many as retribution for helping the US. Another lawyer in the team, Qamar Nadeem, said: 'We all have been receiving threats from many quarters for a long time but we ignored them. I think someone spooked him enough to leave.'
