Seattle-based Joseph Shaeffer, of local law firm McDonald Hoague & Bayless, joined hundreds of others this week in turning in the badges. He was a scout in Florida, earning the rank of Eagle Scout in 1987, reports Pink News.
‘Instead of living up to its values, the Boy Scouts have chosen to exclude people because of who they love,’ said Mr Shaeffer.
'Spiritual pressure'
According to the report, the scout group has delayed a vote on ban ‘due to the complexity of the issue’.
Despite a poll last week revealing that a majority of Americans feel the ban should be dropped, the organisation's reliance on churches and other faith-groups could prove a sticking point.
Earlier this month, Matt Barber - the leader of the Christian legal firm Liberty Counsel - said that ‘spiritual pressure from Satan’ was behind the move on the scouts to drop its anti-gay ban.
