The study, published by Keystone Law, surveyed 300 lawyers in the United Kingdom and found that 68 per cent believe that being a lawyer is more stressful than working in other professions. The workload, demands of clients and billing targets were cited as the three most prominent causes of stress for lawyers, cited by 80 per cent, 76 per cent and 66 per cent of respondents respectively.
Lightening the load
On the other hand, more than one in three respondents said that a shift towards flexible working at their firm would help to make their work less stressful and more enjoyable. Lighter workloads, better management, lower billing targets and more generous remuneration were also on top of the wish list for at least one in three respondents each.
