Robert Peirce Jr, the named partner at Pittsburgh law firm Robert Peirce & Associates, and fellow Pittsburgh practitioner Louis Raimond were found guilty of violating federal corruption legislation for filing 11 fraudulent claims, according to a report in the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette newspaper.
Compensation award
Ray Harron, a doctor the lawyers instructed to read client x-rays, was also convicted of fraud offences. The jury at a US District Court in West Virginia awarded CSC Transportation, a Florida-based railway operator, nearly $430,000 in damages to compensate the company for having to defend the 11 cases.
In a statement to the Associated Press news agency, lawyers for Peirce said: ‘We are convinced the jury got it wrong and we strongly disagree with the verdict, but as lawyers we recognise and respect the jury system and legal process.’ The agency said legal teams for Raimond and Harron did not respond to messages seeking comment.
