Lawyers make pledge after Ferguson shooting

Local law school professors and other lawyers have offered 'legal and other assistance', as part of a move towards greater trust and collaboration in the troubled US town of Ferguson.

Thirteen professors from the St Louis University Law School and Washington University School of Law have signed a letter, offering condolences to the family of Michael Brown, the teenager shot by a police officer, and suggesting ways to begin to move ahead. They say: ‘We hope that through our collective efforts, we can all work together to heal and begin to receive answers to the many questions and concerns that we have about the events that transpired.’

They go on to express concern about a range of issues including ‘the nationwide problem of the death of…youths in communities of colour’ and ‘militarised policing tactics’. Some 45 people from the legal community have signed the letter. Source: Riverfront Times
