Legal guru attacks lawyers for lack of client loyalty

Canadian legal futurologist Mitch Kowalski has criticised law firms over hourly billing, the partnership model and a lack of loyalty to clients.

Firms criticised over fees Pakhnyushcha

Speaking in Australia, ahead of the Lawtech Summit conference, Mr Kowalski said that 'every firm will tell you….they are client-centric'. However, according to Law Fuel, he then went on to say: 'Clients, however, say the opposite is true.'  During the course of his talk, he explained his own view, concluding: 'Often, partners are only loyal to themselves; we see this with large salary demands and with lawyers changing firms as often as they change their suits.' Alternative billing arrangements deliver better value 'in many cases' to clients, he said, but lawyers often persist in falsely equating hours spent with value to the client.
