Litigation giants clash as Dershowitz and Boies exchange blows

David Boies of Boies Schiller & Flexner has described comments from Alan Dershowitz, onetime defender of Claus von Bulow and Mike Tyson, as 'misleading',while Mr Dershowitz has flatly contradicted a version of events given by Mr Boies.

The issue has come to a head because Boies Schiller is acting for a woman who claims that she had sex with Mr Dershowitz (pictured), formerly a Harvard Law School professor, when she was 15. Mr Dershowitz, now 77, has consistently denied the claims and described those claims as 'outrageous falsehoods'.

Legal strategy disclosed

Mr Dershowitz has now filed an affidavit in a Florida state court containing notes of his conversations with Mr Boies. He claims that Boies Schiller had agreed to represent him on these issues and that he had disclosed his legal strategy to the firm. The firm later withdrew from acting for him when it realised that it was already committed, through another lawyer, to act for the woman making the claims.

'Flatly untrue'

Mr Dershowitz claims that Mr Boies told him that he did not believe the woman's claims. Commenting on these assertions, Mr Boies has said that they are 'misleading' or 'flatly untrue'. He added: 'I never said to him that I concluded that my clients’ assertions were incorrect. I didn’t say that. I didn’t say anything like that.' Mr Boies, 74, has been involved in various high-profile cases in the US, including representing former presidential candidate Al Gore. Source: New York Times
