Milt Stewart, who recently retired from Oregon law firm Davis, Wright & Tremaine, donated the money to Indiana University Maurer School of Law. The gift will see the law school's Centre of the Global Legal Profession be renamed to the Milt and Judi Stewart Centre on the Global Legal Profession. It will be used to support the centre's activities, including global externships for law students, research and outreach activities, partnership programs with law schools around the world and other student activities. The Stewarts have supported the Centre on the Global Legal Profession since its founding in 2009, including establishing the Stewart Fellows global externship programme, which since 2010 has funded more than 100 students’ summer externships in eight countries since.
Successful
'Judi and I are delighted to make this gift to the centre,´ Milt Stewart said. ´My law school education made it possible for me to have a successful and rewarding practice in the global legal profession. This gift enables me to repay the school in some small way for the success I have had, and, I hope, expose future students to the opportunities available to global lawyers.' Mr Stewart practised in the Portland office of Davis Wright Tremaine, a national business and litigation law firm with offices across the United States and in Shanghai. He currently serves as vice chairman of the Indiana University Foundation board of directors.
