Top 15 US firm Mayer Brown has promoted 36 lawyers to partner, a slight drop on 2024’s cohort when 39 made the grade.
However, the firm also elevated 21 to counsel – nine more than last year – meaning overall the 57-strong promotions round was roughly 12% higher than a year ago, slightly below the 65 promoted in 2023 but above the 53 elevated in 2022. The new promotions are due to take effect from 1 January.
Women made up 39% of the latest partner intake and 47% of the overall promotions, down from 51% in 2024 but in line with the 47% made up in 2023.

The US accounted for the bulk of promotions (22, including IP lawyer Tatsuya Koyama, who will split his time between Washington DC and Tokyo). Chicago saw nine promotions in all, with Washington and Salt Lake City welcoming three a piece and the rest spread across New York and Charlotte (two each) and Los Angeles, Houston and North California (one each).
The firm’s London and Paris offices saw the second most promotions (four each), with Singapore and Frankfurt (two) and Hong Kong, Tokyo and Sao Paulo (one each) completing the round.

The banking and finance practice saw the most promotions with seven, including two in London – Jake Lindsay and Mariana Padinha Ribeiro. Litigation and dispute resolution saw six promotions, including London-based Jonathan Cohen, as did the corporate and securities practice, while global energy saw five promotions.
The real estate and IP practices both elevated three to partner, with the rest spread across restructuring (two, including Ben Ward in London) and capital markets, global investigations and white collar defence, tax and global leveraged finance and private capital (all one).
