McDermott Will & Emery has named a trio of partners to lead the firm’s global antitrust group, replacing long-time competition head Ray Jacobsen.
The trio include Ryan Tisch – who will take on overall global antitrust leadership – with Jon Dubrow heading the firm’s US antitrust group and Christian Krohs heading the European practice group. Both the US partners are based in Washington DC, while Krohs is based in Germany, splitting his time between Düsseldorf and Cologne.
Tisch is a merger control specialist and has secured approvals for significant mergers facing review in multiple jurisdictions, including in the communications, manufacturing, technology and food and beverage industries, reflecting demand from the firm’s M&A and private equity practice groups.
Writing on social media, Tisch said: “Looking forward to continued collaboration and growth in 2025, within and beyond the antitrust practice, and across our offices worldwide.”
Tisch joined the firm in May 2023, having previously been a partner at Crowell & Moring for more than 20 years.
Dubrow serves clients across various issues, including M&A clearance, investigations and litigation. Like Tisch, he has led the defence of M&A and joint ventures before US and international competition authorities. He joined the firm in 1998 from legacy Howrey.
Krohs advises clients on all aspects of German and EU competition law, including proceedings before German and EU courts and associated regulatory proceedings before national and international regulators on contentious competition matters, as well as compliance programmes and investigations. He joined the firm 10 years ago as a partner from KPMG Law, having also spent seven years at Freshfields.
Washingtoin-based Jacobsen, a 28-year veteran at the firm, will remain on as a partner.
Alva Mather, global head of McDermott’s regulatory practice group, thanked Jacobsen for “his many contributions in leading practice over the years” saying it was “well positioned for the anticipated upswing in M&A activity in 2025”.
Mather said the firm would continue to grow antitrust as a practice area as it remained “committed to bringing top-notch practitioners in M&A, antitrust litigation and investigations to serve our clients”.
Earlier this year, McDermott’s London office hired Alex Wood as a corporate finance partner, focusing on finance, restructuring, insolvency and special situations.
Wood, who previously led the restructuring teams at Shearman & Sterling and Weil, was also a partner at Hogan Lovells. He left Shearman in April 2024, just prior to its merger with Allen & Overy, having retired as a partner the previous year.
Wood is the latest arrival in London following a busy 2024, which saw the arrival of Graham White as a partner, among many other hires, while also refreshing the London leadership team back in May.
