Media Law and Intellectual Property Law in the Czech Republic

Published by: Linde Prague Authors: John Diblík, François Veit December 2011 P/B CZK432 (£14) ISBN: 978-80-7201-863-5
Intellectual property experts from central European firm PRK Partners have released a book they claim is not only unique in its content, but is also a bilingual tour de force, presented in both English and Czech.
The authors of this IP adventure are DRK partner François Veit, a member of the Paris Bar and the Czech Bar Association, who studied media, entertainment law and copyright at Harvard Law School, and Jan Diblik, also a Czech Bar member and experienced software licensing and copyright contracts lawyer.
The publication aims to introduce readers to the legal framework supporting the individual media sectors in the Czech Republic, addressing both general regulatory matters and the influence of European legislation. Relevant case law also gets a look in.
The first half of the book covers public law and the regulation of mass media, also bringing the internet and advertising into the fold.
The second half dives into private law aspects of media regulation from an IP point of view, exploring the right to protection of personality, reputation, copyright and related rights, including the right to protection against unfair business practices.
The book is billed by the publishers as an accessible tool for those who are looking for a cheap and cheerful introduction to the subject.
