Reputation is everything in NSW

According to Australian publication Lawyers Weekly, The NSW LSC received 2758 written complaints this year, as well as 7920 calls to its enquiry line. When the service began, there were 2801 written complaints and 6700 calls. However, the number of lawyers in the jurisdiction has more than doubled since 1994, with Commissioner Steve Mark commenting: ‘The vast majority of lawyers today are actually fairly good.’

Risk averse

Lawyers in the area were becoming more risk averse, the commissioner pointed out, with many unwilling to take any chances with their reputation. Mr Mark also credited the LSC’s education program, which conducts around 100 seminars on ethics each year.
