Non-lawyers launch venture to overhaul crime defence work

A new company looks set to make its mark on UK criminal legal services.

Criminal legal services provided through digital hub Dream Designs

Five entrepreneurs, none of them lawyers, have created a business, Defence Hub, which they say will revolutionise the crime market after it is launched in the UK in late January. Defence Hub predicts that it will have a revenue of £50m in its first year. It has begun recruiting a team of 120 crime lawyers and will also work with law firms throughout the country. In recruiting law firms to partner with, it is promising a 21.6 per cent return on the casework they carry out. It is understood to have been investing heavily in IT. The service going live next month is mainly digital and focuses on casework preparation and advocacy. Source: Legal Futures
