NQ numbers fall 6pc at top 20 UK firms

The numbers of newly-qualified lawyers taking up posts in the top 20 UK practices has slumped by 6.3 percent, according to research from Legal Week.

Simmons & Simmons, for instance, kept on 71 per cent of its newly-qualifeds - compared to 89 per cent in 2012.

Simon Johnson, recruitment partner at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer told Legal Week: 'I think numbers will remain flat or see a downward trend in coming years, which is part of the inherent caution at law firms.'
