Ohio approves text message marketing for lawyers

While phone calls and personal visits are still banned, personal injury lawyers are to be allowed to use text messages as a way of reaching potential clients.

The Ohio Supreme Court is now allowing the move, after its Board of Commissioners on Grievances and Discipline examined the issue and gave an advisory opinion to accept it earlier this year. Chat rooms, however, would fall outside the rules as they are defined as 'real-time or live conversation' - and these are banned. But the law may be ahead of practice for the time being. Local firm Scott Schiff & Associates has tried texting but Mr Schiff says that the firm is not using it at the moment. He says simply: 'It’s obviously a means of reaching the public through the most advanced technology out there.' Source: The Columbus Dispatch
