Oil spill judge accuses lawyers of lying over BP claims

US District Judge Carl Barbier has accused three lawyers of lying - one, Lionel Sutton III who worked inside a claim-handling centre and two from outside.

The judge said that the evidence clearly shows that Mr Sutton and the other two, Jonathan Andry and Glen Lerner, lied about the system. The judge’s came after hearing evidence on allegations that Mr Sutton had received kickbacks in return for speeding up certain claims. Mr Sutton, the only one of the three to give evidence, denied any wrongdoing. He is accused of receiving some US$40,000 for helping speed up claims to clients of Mr Andry and Mr Lerner.
