Reports have surfaced today that Olswang and CMS Cameron McKenna may be negotiating a merger that could create a £880m firm with over 3,000 lawyers. The tie-up would be CMS’ second in as many years following its merger with Scottish firm Dundas & Wilson in 2014. According to reports in industry publication The Lawyer, talks between the two firms kicked off earlier this year and have been gaining momentum as the summer progresses. However, it is reported that CMS has also approached several other smaller city players including Bird & Bird, Simmons & Simmons and Osborne Clarke. The firm appears to be focussing on takeover targets with a similar sector focus on energy, life sciences and the financial services sector.
