Olswang expands into Korea

TMT specialist Olswang has announced it is expanding its Asian offering to include Korea with the hire of consultant Steve Kim to lead business development and client support services locally.

Trained as a lawyer in the US, Mr Kim has previously held positions in Korea as senior legal counsel at Samsung and head of sales and marketing at CPA Global. At Olswang, he will focus on developing the firm's profile within the country's bourgeoning technology sector, with a particular emphasis on Korean companies seeking cross-border transactional, commercial, IP and litigious advice.

Cultivating relationships

Mr Kim will not practice law, but will be responsible for managing and cultivating the relationships Olswang Asia has with its partner firms in Korea. He will work closely with Olswang Asia in Singapore, as well as law firms with which Olswang Asia has relations across the region, including Singapore legal practice Holborn Law and independent Hong Kong law firm Haldanes. He will also support Olswang's global IP and dispute resolution teams working with a team of European partners.

Key Asian markets

Olswang Asia managing partner Andrew Stott described the addition of Korea as ‘the latest move in our growth strategy to develop our coverage ability in respect of other key Asian markets,’ including Singapore, Hong Kong and Indonesia. The firm has been operating in Asia since opening in Singapore in February 2012; Olswang Asia’s clients include BHP Billiton, Dentsu Aegis Network, Dong-A Pharmaceuticals, LG, Microsoft and Unilever.
