During his eight years at Olswang, Mr Bratby held a variety of leadership positions including head of commercial, head of telecoms and managing partner of the firm’s Asia arm. Now, Mr Bratby has confirmed that he is leaving the firm behind before its three-way tie up with Nabarro and CMS goes live on 1 May next year, opting instead to join the London office of US-headquartered firm Arnold & Porter. A specialist in corporate work in the telecoms, media and technology sector, Mr Bratby relocated from Singapore to London earlier this year after ending his five-year tenure as managing partner of Olswang’s Asia offices. He is the third senior Olswang partner to bow out of the firm in the last three months, following the exits of patent prosecution co-head Justin Hill earlier this week and life sciences co-head Stephen Reese in October.
From one merger to another
Mr Bratby is effectively switching from one megamerger to another. While forgoing the planned union of Olswang, Nabarro and CMS Cameron McKenna – which will create a combined firm with revenues of almost £1bn – Mr Bratby joins Arnold & Porter ahead of its own planned tie-up with Kaye Scholer. Slated as the biggest law firm merger of 2016, the union of the two East Coast heavyweights will create a $1bn firm with more than 1,000 offices across Europe, the US and China.
