The partnership model is unlikely to survive Generation Y, according to the former managing partner of two Australian law firms. Bill Fazio, who previously managed Herbert Geer and Minter Ellison, believes that the current generation of young lawyers no longer want the current partnership model. He told Australian Lawyer magazine that he did not think Gen Y would accept ‘that there is one answer and they will have to fit in with it. They are a little more assertive in terms of what they’re looking for, and I think they’ve thought harder about things like work-life balance.’ The lawyer, who now runs Fazio Advisory, said it was unlikely that they would make sacrifices earlier in their career to become partners later, particularly as they would probably change employers.
