Fast-growing Spanish law firm Pérez-Llorca grew revenue 33% to a record €165m last year, up from 10% growth the year before.
One fifth of the firm’s global revenue last year came from international markets, including Portugal and Mexico, new markets for the 500-lawyer firm. In Spain, where the firm has around 330 lawyers, revenue grew 8% to €133.6m.
Pérez-Llorca noted that it had grown revenue fivefold in the past decade, equating to roughly €133m. That rate of growth has made the Spanish legal market sit up and take notice, though the firm is still a long way off top domestic outfits Garrigues and Cuatrecasas, which have yet to put out their numbers for 2024 but brought in revenue of €454m and €389m respectively in 2023.
Pedro Pérez-Llorca, the firm’s long-serving senior partner, said 2024 had been a “key” year for the firm, marked by international expansion and investment in technology.
“This growth strengthens our market position and prepares us to face new challenges in an increasingly dynamic legal and political landscape,” he said. “In 2025 we will continue to promote the firm’s international growth, relying on the best talent to service clients using the best technology.”
Pérez-Llorca has been rapidly growing its international network in recent years, including entering the Mexican market last year through a landmark merger with 100-lawyer firm González Calvillo.
The deal saw it add bases in Mexico City and Monterrey to become the second-largest international firm in Mexico after Baker McKenzie, although Garrigues has overtaken it today after announcing the completion of its merger with Mexican firm Sánchez Devanny.
In late 2023 Pérez-Llorca also added 17 lawyers from Portuguese firms to open an office in Lisbon, having set up shop in Brussels and Singapore the year before – the latter of which it said made it the first Spanish law firm to have a base in the Asian city state. The firm also has international offices in London and New York alongside its domestic offices in Madrid and Barcelona.
The firm’s growth saw it beef up its management structure early last year, appointing its first executive partner and first international executive partner to support Pedro Pérez-Llorca and COO Constanza Vergara. Pedro Pérez-Llorca, who has led the firm as senior partner since 1997, said at the time the appointments were part of the succession process for the firm’s governing bodies.
Last year the firm also appointed an international partnership board made up of 30 partners from Spain, Mexico and Portugal to drive growth and ensure service quality.
Meantime Pérez-Llorca’s investment in tech last year saw it strike a deal with AI platform Legora – formerly Leya, which can be used for tasks like document review, workflow optimisation and legal research and is also used by Bird & Bird and Mischon de Reya.
Madrid-based firm Gómez-Acebo & Pombo also announced earlier this month that its revenue rose 8% in 2024 to surpass €100m. Most – €88.6m – of that was generated in the firm's home market, though its international business also experienced a notable growth, with London and Lisbon both seeing increases of over 25% and business from LatAm increasing by more than 40%.
