Pinsent Masons has hired a senior knowledge management and AI specialist from BCLP to lead its AI adoption strategy.

Hayley Harris, who was BCLP’s global director of knowledge and AI enablement, has taken up the new role of global chief knowledge and AI adoption officer.

She will join her new firm’s innovation and change board, which is tasked with ensuring the firm’s AI adoption aligns with its wider technology approach
Her brief includes ensuring the firm’s AI tools are embedded in its workflows.

She will work closely with director of transformation Neil Green, who joined Pinsents in 2024 from Barclays, where he was head of legaltech and transformation within the bank’s in-house legal function.

Matt Peers, global chief operating officer, said: “Every week someone promises the world through a new module, and Hayley will be custodian of the tools and how they work and fit together.”

Harris moves across to Pinsents after nine years at BCLP and predecessor firm Berwin Leighton Paisner, having started out as a solicitor before moving into knowledge management in 2017.

In February, Pinsents announced a global strategic partnership with Legora. The legal AI platform has been rolled out across Pinsents’ corporate, commercial and property groups, following a pilot programme, with further pilots planned for its remaining practice groups.

Advances in the capabilities of programmes powered by generative AI technology have prompted many law firms to invest in specialist personnel.

Last December, UK law firm Farrer & Co recruited Oliver Jeffcott as its head of innovation and AI counsel from Macfarlanes with a brief to expand its use of artificial intelligence and act as a bridge between lawyers and technologists.

In the same month, Boston-headquartered firm Ropes & Gray appointed former Meta executive Gretchen Greene as chief of artificial intelligence strategy.
