Police given rights to use drones for tear gas and tasers

One of the most controversial pieces of legislation has been passed regarding drones, allowing police in North Dakota to equip them with 'less than lethal' weapons.

Drones

The bill means, in practice, that the North Dakota police can employ drones for a wide range of uses. This is the surprise outcome of a bill that was first intended to require the police to obtain a warrant before using a drone to search for criminal evidence. The intention of the preliminary draft of the bill was to ban the use of weapons through them. 

Red line

The sponsor of the bill, Republican Rick Becker, said: 'In my opinion there should be a nice, red line. Drones should not be weaponized. Period.' Source: ABA
