Property barons to launch litigation outfit

Multi-millionaire property tycoons the Chow brothers are launching Tempest, a no-win, no-fee litigation start-up that promises to help 'the little guy'.

The brothers, who have made an estimated $75m from their ownership of hotels, strip clubs and commercial property deals, intend to use their success to help small entities with access to litigation funding. They have teamed up with liquidators Damien Grant and Stephen Khov, after meeting while on the opposing side of the liquidation of a Chow company.

‘Lack of competition’

Tempest will be New Zealand’s second professional litigation company, only taking on cases with a good chance of success and focusing on claims of between $500,000 and $2m. Mr Chow said the fees from wins will give much better returns than many other investments. ‘We thought Tempest was a great start-up business to finance because of their lack of competition in New Zealand,’ he added.
