PwC plans for 500 lawyers in Asia by 2019

The Big Four accountancy giant plans to earn 15 to 20 per cent of its income in Asia, with a doubling of staff numbers in the area, in the next five years.

It will work on a six-to-one lawyer-to-partner ratio, so expects some 70 to 80 of those lawyers to be partners. Andrew Wheeler, head of legal in Australia and Asia Pacific said the firm had to be in a number of jurisdictions to properly service clients. These would include Singapore and Hong Kong as well as other Asian centres such as Japan, China and Indonesia. Korea was also a possiblity as PWC had a strong Korean desk. The firm currently has some 250 lawyers in the region. Source: Legal Week
