US real estate investment firm Passco Companies has appointed Thomas Voekler as its chief legal officer.
Voekler joins from Williams Mullen, where he was a partner. At Passco Companies, he will be responsible for overseeing all legal, risk, compliance and regulatory functions and supporting the company’s growth initiatives, governance framework and executive leadership team. He brings close to a quarter of a century of experience advising REITs, fund sponsors and industry affiliates on REIT, TIC, DST, Regulation A and equity syndications in public and private markets.
Irvine, California-based Passco Companies specialises in the acquisition and management of multifamily and commercial properties across the US with $4.1bn in assets under management.
Larry Sullivan, president of Passco Companies, said: “We believe Tom’s knowledge of all aspects of the business will allow him to provide value in our sourcing and diligence of exemplary properties, allow for continued growth in our best-in-class management and provide market-leading syndications. He is recognised for integrating legal insight with business strategy, being forward-thinking and combining legal expertise with managerial leadership.”
Voekler spent just over two years at Williams Mullen after it acquired the firm he co-founded in 2012 – KVCF. Prior to that he was a shareholder at Hirschler Fleischer for more than seven years and an associate at Hunton & Williams for almost three years.
Voekler said: “I am extremely excited to take on this role and look forward to contributing to Passco’s continued growth by advancing its mission of delivering sound real estate investment opportunities and helping to identify new opportunities and relationships.”
He also co-founded TJC Realty in 2011, which invests in, restores, rents and manages multi-unit housing.
“His experience founding a real estate investment company – spanning self-storage, industrial flex and small multifamily assets – gives him personal insight into what our investors expect,” Sullivan added.
In other real estate moves, back in September US residential real estate broker Compass hired Cooley partner Ethan Glass as CLO, replacing general counsel Brad Serwin, while in May, US real estate investment firm KHP Capital Partners hired Alex Lewis as GC from Goodwin Procter, replacing Judy Miles in the role.
