The larger the amount of data held, the greater the risk, according to Robert Bond, a partner in Charles Russell Speechlys and a member of the UN Global Pulse Data Privacy Advisory Group. Highlighting the basic principles of EU laws - a minimalist approach requiring that consumer data should not be kept for longer than necessary - he said: 'Big data is almost entirely the opposite of that.'
Breach
The EU rules say that personal data should not be used in ways that would not have been anticipated by the individuals involved. The way that many companies now hold information is itself likely to be a breach of the law, said Mr Bond. Source: Financial Times
