City-based law firm RPC has elected a successor to longstanding managing partner James Miller.
Litigator Antony Sassi is set to begin a four-year term on 1 May 2025, succeeding Miller, who has been in the role since 2017.
Sassi has been RPC’s Asia managing partner since 2019 and sits on the firm’s partnership executive committee. He is set to relocate to London for the managing partner role from Hong Kong, where he has been based for more than a decade and is recognised as one of the leading insurance litigators in the market.
“It’s a privilege to take on this role,” Sassi said. “I’m grateful for the platform that I've been given, James’s accomplishments over the past few years have been impressive.”
He added: “I’m genuinely excited to progress this next chapter as we continue to grow, building a robust and global firm. We remain committed to excelling in our chosen specialist areas of practice and key sectors.”
Miller will stand down at the end of April following the completion of his second term as managing partner. RPC has grown significantly under his leadership, with the partnership expanding from 79 to 136 and revenue going from £98.9m in 2017 to £172.2m in 2024, a 74% increase.
“It has been and remains an honour to serve RPC as managing partner,” Miller said. “I am immensely proud of what we collectively continue to achieve thanks to the dedication, teamwork and expertise of our colleagues.
“With the best part of another four months in the role, I don’t intend to take my foot off the accelerator now. I look forward to handing the reins to someone of Antony’s calibre, knowing the firm is in the best possible hands to achieve its potential.”
Miller joined RPC as a trainee in 1995 and was its head of insurance before being appointed managing partner. He will remain at the firm after standing down, RPC confirmed.
The news follows RPC announcing on Tuesday that partner Zoё Mernick-Levene, who joined last June from Leigh Day, was launching a new class action against UK water and sewerage companies including Thames Water, with damages of up to £510m being sought.
Disputes is a core area for the firm, which is also known for its insurance focus and has more than 500 lawyers working across offices in London, Bristol, Hong Kong and Singapore. The firm’s other core areas include commercial, corporate, data and cyber, employment, real estate and regulatory.
