For a select group of lucky law firms, the row between two of the world's technology giants -- Apple and Samsung -- is the litigation that just keeps giving, with the latest round going to the South Koreans.

Samsung has earlier this week seen off an appeal by its California-based rivals of a recent English court ruling that the Koreans hadn’t copied the famous iPad design.

Too cool

In the earlier hearing, a London-based specialist judge famously found that the Samsung design couldn’t be mistaken for that of Apple’s iPad because it was nowhere near ‘as cool’. The judge also ordered the Californians to take out high profile advertisements and to broadcast on its own web site the fact that the South Koreans were not copycats.
As London and San Francisco-based technology specialist news web site The A Register reports, Apple immediately appealed. However, that too has failed, with the appeal court judge also supporting the lower court’s view that Apple should be forced to publicise Samsung’s vindication.

Meanwhile, back in a California courtroom, the two tech behemoths continue to lock horns in the aftermath of their long running patent battle. Within the last few days, US District Court Judge Lucy Koh ordered Apple to disclose the profits of its iPad and iPhone products so that damages can be assessed after the Californians won their main claim.
According to The A Register: ‘Apple has never really given hard data on how much money it makes from these specific lines.’
