Guy Padraic Hamilton-Smith now has until January 13 to lodge an appeal against a decision by the state's Supreme Court which prevents him from taking his legal career further.The Chief Justice, John D Minton, did not impose a blanket ban on registered sex offenders in his judgment but said that cases should be considered 'on an individualized basis'. While many felons have sought admission to the bar, there are only a few cases involving registered sex offenders. These include a recently rejected application in Ohio and a live case in Virginia. For the last two years, since he graduated, Mr Hamilton-Smith has been working in a non-lawyer role for the Lexington-based law firm Baldani, Rowland and Richardson.
