Weil Gotshal & Manges has promoted private funds senior associate James Sargent and banking and finance associate Nitin Konchady to its partnership in London. The pair were chosen alongside one partner from Weil’s base in Frankfurt and 10 from the United States, half of whom are women. Mr Sargent, a specialist in private investment funds, joined Weil after a stint as an associate at Clifford Chance. His clients include 8 Miles, Arcus Infrastructure Partners and Hastings Funds Management. On the other hand, Mr Konchady joined Weil in March 2015 after seven years with Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison. His practice focuses on high yield debt offerings and leveraged and acquisition finance transactions. Both lawyers will join the Weil partnership on 1 January.
Simpson Thacher taps two
Meanwhile, fellow US-based firm Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has also elected to promote two London lawyers to its partnership. Banking and credit lawyers Shahpur Kabraji and Tom Lloyd have both made partner as part of an 11-strong global promotions round that also favoured US-based lawyers. The firm also promoted seven in New York, one in Washington DC and one in Hong Kong. Mr Kabraji specialises in domestic and cross-border syndicated credit, acquisition finance and other leveraged finance transactions, while Mr Lloyd’s practice focuses on credit transactions and financial instruments, as well as cross-border finance issues with a focus on sponsor-driven real estate investments.
