Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has hired Weil Gotshal & Manges partner Murray Cox in London, adding an experienced infrastructure M&A lawyer to its energy and infrastructure practice.
Cox advises financial sponsors, listed companies and institutional investors on cross-border M&A, UK and European take-privates, infrastructure investments, corporate governance, ESG and corporate finance matters.
He joins after more than five years at Weil, before which he spent 13 years at Slaughter and May, making partner in 2016.
Cox’s recent mandates include advising Antin Infrastructure on the sale of a minority stake in Norwegian shipping company Sølvtrans to a UK investment fund. He also worked on two deals for Global Infrastructure Partners in March and December 2025.
Amy Mahon, co-head of Simpson Thacher’s energy and infrastructure practice, said: “Infrastructure as an asset class continues to show strong momentum, with capital concentrating on the largest platforms and digital infrastructure and energy-related investment dominating activity, which plays to the strength of our practice.”
She added: “Murray’s M&A practice, which incorporates complex transactions across a range of infrastructure sectors, will strengthen our ability to support clients on their most complex and signcorpificant mandates.”
Cox is the latest addition to Simpson Thacher’s London energy bench. Energy transition partner Eleanor Milne joined from A&O Shearman in late 2025, while energy and infrastructure partner David McKendrick-Ness moved across from Weil earlier this year.
The hire comes amid continued competition for London energy and infrastructure talent. Ashurst Perkins Coie hired White & Case lawyer Heidi Blomqvist in March as a partner, bringing experience advising corporate and private equity clients in the energy and infrastructure sector. Fieldfisher also hired Clyde & Co partner Richard Power, whose international arbitration practice has a particular focus on energy disputes, as part of its investment in that sector.
