The office will be headed by Ignatius Hwang, who will be supported by a team of three lawyers that is specifically strong in the fields of energy, infrastructure and resources.

Korea bound

The move comes only a few weeks after the firm announced that it had joined the queue of firms applying to practise in South Korea.
The firm said in a statement that the Singapore office would target multinational corporations, governments and banks working on major infrastructure projects, including public-private partnership projects, cross-border transactions, international arbitration, financing arrangements and corporate restructurings throughout the region.

Regional approach

The firm’s chairman and global chief executive, James Maiwurm, commented on the move, saying: ‘Singapore provides a gateway to other rapidly growing economies such as Indonesia and India.  It is a natural addition to our offices in Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Perth in Australia, building upon our strategy to become one of the leading legal service providers in the Asia Pacific region.’
At the beginning of March, two leading UK-based private client firms – Withers and LG – also opened offices in Singapore.
