The San Francisco Business Journal reports that Mr Cavallaro – who joined the Californian university in 2011 – is an expert on international human rights law, particularly in Latin America.
Mr Cavallaro received his undergraduate degree at Harvard University before gaining a law degree at the University of California, Berkeley. He also worked in Chile and Brazil before being hired by Stanford.
According to the report, the budding centre has listed only Mr Cavallaro as faculty so far ahead of its planned launch in April.
It will offer two fellowships for graduating law school students or recent graduates.
