Toolmaking giant Stanley Black & Decker has hired Francesca Campbell as general counsel, replacing Janet Link, who departed in November.

Campbell joins from heating, refrigeration and air conditioning business Carrier, where she was chief legal officer. At Stanley Black & Decker, she will be responsible for all legal, compliance and company secretarial matters. She will take up her new role on 16 February.

Chris Nelson, president and CEO of Stanley Black & Decker, said: “[Campbell’s] legal acumen and leadership in tackling complex challenges and advancing corporate governance have made a lasting impact wherever she has served. Her commitment to integrity and dedication to the highest ethical standards will be instrumental in driving our success as we advance our growth strategy.”

Campbell arrives after five years at Carrier, becoming CLO in December 2024. She initially joined as chief M&A counsel, having started her career as an M&A associate at Davis Polk & Wardwell.

Link, meanwhile, announced her departure back in October before leaving at the end of November to join US private automotive business JM Family Enterprises as GC. She spent more than eight years at Stanley Black & Decker, having previously spent just under three years at JC Penney Company, most of them as GC.

In addition, she spent more than four years at CC Media Holdings (now known as iHeartMedia) as deputy GC, which also included a spell as interim GC of its Clear Channel Outdoor Americas business.

Prior to that Link worked in private practice at Latham & Watkins, where she spent close to 13 years, more than five of them as a partner.

Speaking on Link’s arrival at JM Family in December, its CEO Dan Chait said: “Beyond her extensive legal expertise, Janet is a passionate champion for talent development and recognises the importance of a strong workplace culture to achieving favourable business outcomes, qualities which closely align with our leadership priorities.

“Her track record of success, ability to serve as a trusted and strategic advisor to fellow leaders and overall commitment to excellence will serve JM Family well as we continue to grow and pursue our long-term goals. We are thrilled to welcome her to the team.”

In other tool and DIY-related moves, back in August paint-maker PPG said it was promoting deputy GC Joe Gette to the GC role when incumbent Anne Foulkes stepped down at the start of this year.
