Managing partner John Cahill has confirmed that Mr Gatt will be joining Stewarts Law as a partner, but has declined to elaborate of details of the hire until Mr Gatt formally joins the firm next year. Appointed as Queen’s Counsel in 2002 and joining HSF from Littleton Chambers in 2005, Mr Gatt was one of the co-founders of HSF’s advocacy unit alongside Murray Rosen QC, who left the firm in 2014. Following his departure, the HSF advocacy team will be left with eight lawyers and will be co-headed by Tom Leech QC and disputes partner Adam Johnson.
Third partner exit this month
A statement from HSF confirmed Mr Gatt’s resignation and thanked him for his contribution to the firm. It added: ‘We will continue to invest in our market-leading practice both by way of nurturing our own talent and significant lateral hires where there is client demand.’ Mr Gatt is the third high-profile partner to walk away from HSF this month, following the exits of financial regulatory partner Nick Bradbury to Allen & Overy and finance partner Malcolm Hitching to Ropes & Gray.
