Last week, Morgan Lewis partner Sheri Dillon confirmed that the firm has been asked by the President-elect to handle any conflicts of interest arising from his position in the White House by ‘[designing] a structure for his business empire that would completely isolate him from the management of the company.’ Despite Mr Trump’s insistence that he ‘could actually run my business and run government at the same time’, there has been widespread concern among Democrats and others about the ways in which Trump’s status as a prolific business might create conflicts during his tenure as President since he was elected to the nation’s highest office last year.

'Number one' firm in Russia 

However, it has now emerged that Morgan Lewis was recognised last year by Chambers & Partners as the number one law firm for business clients in Russia. The accolade has raised eyebrows, as Mr Trump has been at pains to distance himself from speculation that he may have business interests in Russia that are influencing his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Last week, reports surfaced of an unverified Russian intelligence dossier on Mr Trump which is speculated to contain compromising information about the business mogul and soon-to-be President. Russia has also been accused of hacking the US election in an effort to secure a Trump presidency.

Mr Trump said on Wednesday: ‘I have no deals [in Russia]. I have no loans and no dealings. We could make deals in Russia very easily, if we wanted to. I just don’t want to because I think that would be a conflict.’
