The Ukraine has implemented new rules on the use of personal data this month.The new law's wide definition of personal data includes any information related to an individual who is identified or may be identified and says that the individual must give their consent for his or her information to be processed.

Cross-border data

The legislation also says  that cross-border transfer of personal data is only allowed in countries deemed to have privacy laws which provide an adequate level of personal data protection. Those include membe-states of the Euopean Economic Area, parties to the Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data and countires included into a list approved by the Government of Ukraine - not yet approved.
