US data centre developer Montera Infrastructure has hired Justin Landfair as chief legal officer, a newly created position.
Landfair joins from Aligned Data Centers, where he was deputy general counsel. At Montera, he will build and lead its legal function, overseeing all legal, regulatory and compliance matters and managing its outside counsel panel. He will also be charged with shaping the company’s governance, risk management, capital formation and contractual frameworks.
San Francisco-based Montera develops, owns and operates single-tenant hyperscale data centres for AI and cloud computing activities. It was founded last year through a $1.5bn equity commitment from investment firm Stonepeak.

Landfair arrives after just under four years at Aligned Data Centers, having previously spent close to nine years at data centre business Digital Realty, where he was vice president, corporate counsel and legal operations.
Prior to that he worked in private practice at McGuireWoods, where he was a senior associate in its M&A and energy practice groups. He started his legal career at Duane Morris.
He said: “Early in my career I represented energy producers through the Marcellus buildout, where the ability to build at scale and speed was critical. AI computing is in the same position now. The industry needs companies that can deliver gigawatt-scale infrastructure, and the Montera leadership team has done it before. That is why I joined, along with the chance to build the legal and commercial framework for infrastructure the global economy now runs on.”
In other recent digital infrastructure-related moves, back in March US cloud and data centre services provider US Signal hired Nate Steed as CLO from Michigan-based law firm Warner Norcross & Judd, also a newly created position.
