US eDiscovery and legal data services company Repario has agreed to buy US alternative legal services provider UnitedLex.
Repario says the deal will enable it to expand on a global scale, consolidating its eDiscovery, infrastructure and managed-review capabilities with UnitedLex’s multinational litigation, legal operations and AI advisory and incident-response services.
Repario is backed by private equity firm JLL, while UnitedLex is backed by CVC.
Clients will benefit from the combination of Repario’s services that use AI plus human experts to help lawyers decipher evidence in large datasets, alongside UnitedLex’s handling of complex legal work.
David Moran, CEO of Repario, said: “There have been significant concerns that using AI in legal means giving up control of your data, visibility into the process and confidence the results will hold up. Clients deserve a higher standard of legal service and shouldn’t have to make that trade.

Kansas-based Repario was formed three years ago following the integration of four eDiscovery service providers – Teris, Modus, Elijah and Meta-e – which was supported by a strategic partnership with private equity firm JLL.
Meanwhile, CVC bought a majority stake in UnitedLex in 2018, and according to Legal IT Insider, the firm has been looking for a prospective buyer over the past several months.
UnitedLex operates in more than 26 jurisdictions worldwide, and has over 400 clients with an employee headcount of more than 2,000 legal, engineering and technology professionals, underscoring the expansion opportunities that the acquisition brings for Repario.
Earlier this week, US ALSP Epiq agreed to buy data-breach response company Canopy, its third acquisition of the year.
