US legaltech services provider Consilio has agreed to acquire Australian legaltech and eDiscovery specialist icourts.
Following the deal, Consilio will bring icourts’ legal technology and eDiscovery services into its own business, giving customers access to a broader range of local expertise and technology for handling digital evidence.
Mutual clients are set to benefit from an expanded range of offerings covering forensic technology, eDiscovery, evidence management and eCourts.
Founded 15 years ago, icourt helps law firms comb through digital evidence in litigations, investigations and regulatory matters, performing tasks such as processing datasets and preparing evidence for courts through digital court books and eTrials.
Drew Macaulay, Consilio’s managing director for APAC and EMEA, said: “This acquisition reflects our confidence in the Australian market and adds further scale and broader capabilities to our Australian business.
“Icourts’ expertise complements our existing capabilities very well and further strengthens our ability to support clients across the full spectrum of litigation, investigations and regulatory matters.”
Rebecca Grant, founder and CEO of icourts, said that joining Consilio marks a “new chapter” for the firm.
She added: “Consilio provides the ideal platform to build on what we’ve created at icourts, giving our clients access to global expertise, leading technology and expanded capabilities, while preserving the local service, personal approach and trusted relationships they know and value.”
Consilio’s acquisition is the latest move the firm has made to increase its footprint in Australia.
Earlier this year, the firm announced the integration of Australian eDiscovery and eLitigation provider elaw, with the aim to build-up local capacity for its clients.
And in June, Consilio secured a strategic partnership deal with AI-based legaltech start-up Eudia, consolidating Eudia’s purpose-built AI agents with Consilio’s decades-long technology expertise.
Other recent deals in an accelerating M&A legaltech market include alternative legal services provider Elevate’s purchase of US legal work-management platform start-up Lupl last month.
In July, legaltech giant Legora acquired UK AI litigation intelligence start-up Wexler, its fifth acquisition this year, while rival Harvey agreed to buy New York-based investment firm-focused AI platform Benchmark.
