US employers warned on age and pregnancy cases

The Equal Employment Opportunities Commission (EEOC) is predicting an increase in the cases it brings against employers on equal pay, age and pregnancy.

A leg up for older workers auremar

The EEOC's general counsel David Lopez, interviewed in Law360, said he positively wanted to see more cases brought under the Equal Pay Act on the grounds of age. This would reflect the ageing of the population, he explained. In the interview, reported by Mondaq.com, Mr Lopez said that the EEOC was actively looking at cases of pregnancy discrimination. These are 'pretty easy and straightforward', he said.

The increase in disability cases over the last three years was 'probably by design', he added, since the EEOC was trying to carry out in practice the effect of new amendments in the area.
