AI-powered food supply chain business GrubMarket has hired Jorge deNeve as chief legal officer, a newly created position.

deNeve joins from O’Melveny & Myers, where he was a partner. He brings more than two decades of legal experience across corporate governance, regulatory compliance and securities law. At GrubMarket, deNeve will be responsible for the company’s legal function and maintaining its governance, compliance and operational standards.

San Francisco-based GrubMarket is using tech and AI to digitally transform the US and Canadian food supply chain industry, providing services to businesses and end consumers.

Mike Xu, CEO of GrubMarket, said: “Jorge brings exceptional legal expertise and a deep understanding of governance and regulatory best practices. His experiences as a partner at OMM and as a former SEC enforcement attorney uniquely position him to help GrubMarket continue to build durable systems and processes, maintain high operational standards and support our long-term vision as we scale our software, AI and global operations.”

deNeve arrives after 13 years at O’Melveny – his fourth stint at the firm – making partner in 2022. He returned to the firm in 2012 as counsel following just over a year as GC at investment advisory business Aletheia Research and Management.

He previously had a four-year spell as counsel at O’Melveny, having returned following almost four years as an enforcement attorney at the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Prior to that he spent two and a half years as an associate at O’Melveny, having spent a year clerking in the US District Court for the Central District of California. He started his legal career at O’Melveny in 1998 during his first stint at the firm.

He said: “Drawing on my experience as a partner at O’Melveny advising companies and as an enforcement attorney at the SEC, I look forward to supporting GrubMarket’s mission to transform the food supply chain through technology and AI.

“As the company continues to scale its software, AI and digital commerce platforms, I am eager to partner with the leadership team to help strengthen the legal and governance foundations that enable long-term innovation, responsible growth and operational excellence.”

In other US grocery-related moves, back in July supermarket giant Kroger hired former Dinsmore & Shohl managing partner George Vincent as its next GC. Earlier that month, online US specialist Asian supermarket Weee! appointed Devang Shah from Pivot Bio as its GC.
